We are misunderstood

  • What an Introvert is

Introverted individuals often feel emotionally drained when surrounded by large groups of people, loud noises, and confusion. However, we may also enjoy a few close friends or family members with whom we have a strong bond. We tend to observe the world, take in a lot of information, and think before we speak. We are analytical and reflective, discovering a more profound meaning or underlying pattern.

  • What an introvert isn't

Introverted people are not necessarily shy or awkward. We can be social when needed, but it takes a toll, and we need a break or some time afterward to recover and recharge. It is not the same as shyness or social anxiety. Introversion is not a character flaw. It is just one of the “Big 5” personality traits. (along with Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness)

  • Signs you may be an introvert

Do you feel lonely in a crowd than you do alone? Do you have no desire to be the center of attention? Are you better at writing your thoughts than you are at speaking them? Have you been told you need to speak up more? Do you have a small circle of friends? These are some signs, but introversion is more than just a checklist.

  • Types of introverts

Every introverted person is different, but according to Cheek’s model, there are four traits that are common among us to differing levels: social, Thinking, Anxious, and Restrained. A word of caution: the Anxious type has a lot of overlap with anxiety disorders and social anxiety.

Talk with a professional to help tell the difference.

There is a whole world out there

Introverts tend to be curious, thoughtful and intelligent. But the confusion surrounding travel makes it difficult. It doesn’t have to be.
